The Scottish Government is consulting on proposals that could introduce legal caps on the prices of certain essential foods, such as bread, milk and eggs, sold by large supermarket chains in Scotland.
In simple terms, this could mean setting a maximum price that supermarkets could charge for selected everyday food products, with the aim of making essential food more affordable, particularly for households on lower incomes.
The consultation is also considering which foods and businesses would be covered and how any price caps would be set.
While the current proposals focus on large supermarkets, the controls could also impact on the wider food and drink supply chain, including wholesalers, suppliers and the customers our members serve.
Join SWA Head of Public Affairs, Jayne Swanson, for a briefing on the proposals.
We are particularly keen to hear what price controls could mean in practice for your business, supply chains and customers, and to use that insight to help inform SWA's response to the consultation.
A short briefing note will be circulated in advance to registered attendees to provide some background and help inform the discussion.
